What type of fabric are your bean bags made
from?
Our luxurious bean bags are manufactured using soft, durable ballistic
nylon. They are a stylish and fun addition to any room but are also
durable and versatile enough to be dragged out into the garden for
a lazy summer day
and while they are breathable they are also
water proof. Great for kids, the cover is completely stain proof
and can be cleaned with a non abrasive, bleach free cleaner and
a damp cloth.
What are the beans made from?
Our bean bags are made from soft, squishy 'virgin quality' polystyrene
bead, suitable for all bean filled products. The small round shape
of each bead fits and moulds to your body's natural contours.
They are fire retardant and compliant to all UK, European and U.S.
Fire and Safety Regulations for soft furnishing and furniture.
In other words: the best you can get. Your bean bag will adapt its
shape immediately to that of your body.
How
many beans in a bag?
There
are on average 7000 beans per litres of filling. An average beanbag
requires 250 litres, this equates to a minimum of 1.75 million beans
per bean bag.
Are bean bags safe for children?
Absolutely! Our bean bag chairs are double stitched and proven to
hold up to the abuse of even the biggest children and adults. For
additional safety, the zip is sealed in a tough Velcro seal, that
even older kids find tough to open..
Can
I order a custom beanbag?
We encourage custom orders, and regularly get orders from coffee
shops, night clubs, interior designers, fashion houses etc.
You can send us the dimensions of the space you wish to use, you
can send us your custom design, or you can send us a material that
you may be using in you home and we can make the bean bag to match.
If you have furniture that you wish to match with the bean bag,
simply contact the company who manufactured your furniture as they
will often be able to supply the exact fabric of construction, or
ask for a swatch and we will search our suppliers for a match.

Who designed the world's first bean bag?
Bean
Bag folklore tells of a gentleman by the name of Roger Dean who
was in the employ of a furniture company call Hilie. The tale tells
that towards the end of 1966, the age of Flower Power and Free Love,
Dean created a chair that was named the Sea Urchin. The Urchin consisted
of twelve sections of foam, which were glued together, and although
the Urchin was of a similar construction to the bean bag of the
future, without the beans it simply was not a bean bag.
Bean bag aficionados say that the bean bag was brought to the western
world by the hippies of the sixties returning from travels thru
Asia and India. They had been introduced to cushions that were filled
with dried food beans, and were used to support the base of the
spine during meditation
It is said that upon their return,
while seeking a cheap alternative to the arm chair
the bean
bag was born.
It would not be until 1969 that the bean bag as we know it was presented
to the public. The first mass produced bean bag chair was created
by the Italian designers Gatti, Paolini, and Teodora while working
for the Zanotta Company. These first bean bag chairs were called
Soccos and were pear-shaped leather bags filled with Styrofoam beans.
Bean bags as we know them were born.
